HIGHLIGHTS OF 2021-22

* BEL registered a turnover growth of 9% over the previous year, in spite of

challenges due to Covid-19 pandemic, global chip shortage and stiff

competition.

* Export turnover of 33.30 Million USD.

*Achieved Market Capitalization of Rs. 60,000 Crores.

 BEL’s Armoured Engineer Reconnaissance Vehicle inducted into Indian Army.

*First prototype of indigenously developed Universal Driver Training Simulator
for Rolling Stock (i-UDTS) inaugurated by Secretary (MoHUA).

 *Turnover from indigenous technology is 78%.

During the year 2021-22, the Company received many orders. Significant among
these orders include:
• Avionics Package for LCA
• Advanced Electronic Warfare (EW) suite for fighter aircraft
• Instrumented Electronic Warfare Range (IEWR)
• CDR TI cum Day Light Sights for T-90 Tanks
• Electronic Voting Machine & VVPAT
• RWR & MAWS for C-295 Aircraft
• Gun Electronic Upgrade
• Electronic Warfare Systems for Ships
• Weapon Locating Radar
• Integrated Observation Equipment
EXPORT PERFORMANCE
• Achieved Export sales of 33.30 MUSD.
• Order Book of 269 MUSD, acquired orders worth 179 MUSD.
• Major products include Coastal Surveillance System, sub-systems of Radar
and EW Systems, Data Link II, Cable Looms, Communication Equipment,
Radar Finger Printing System, etc.
• Signed contract with Airbus for supply of Radar Warning Receiver (RWR) and
Missile Approach Warning Systems (MAWS) as part of Offset under C295
aircraft programme of GoI.
• Collaborated with new local partners in Kenya, Chile, Suriname, Malaysia,
Nepal and Bangladesh.
• Increased contract manufacturing portfolio by increasing empanelment as
global supply chain partner with OEMs.
• Strategic alliances with Indian platform manufacturers initiated processes for
signing agreements to create strong support within the country and with
foreign OEMs to address global markets.

R&D INITIATIVES

Empowering the Nation’s Defence Forces

• Successful development, testing & completion of Multi Target Tracking Radar.
• Successful completion of BMP Electro Optic Upgrade and Combat
Management System.
• BEL initiated two major activities for Delhi Metro Railway Corporation namely
Super-Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System and
Indigenous Automatic Train Supervision System (i-ATS).
• BEL has signed LAToT with DRDO in the areas of Radar, EW Systems,
Robotics and Weapon Systems.
• BEL has signed MoUs with the Tri-Services towards Technology Co-operation
and Innovation.
• Future thrust areas are Quantum Cryptography, Photonics-based EW
Systems, High-power Lasers, Geospatial Analytics, Image Profiling using
LiDARs, Drone Guard systems, Intelligent Process Automation, AI based
products, Unmanned Systems, etc.

MANUFACTURING INITIATIVES

• Infrastructure enhancement is one of the major objectives of the Company in
order to stay upgraded for global opportunities and to be the best in business.
• During the year 2021-22, the Company has spent around Rs 465 Crores as
part of CAPEX investment towards modernization of Plant & Machinery, Test
instruments, R&D investments, Infrastructure up-gradation etc.
• Following are some of the major facilities established during 2021-22:
o Infrastructure & Test facilities for LRSAM
o Augmentation of Facilities for AKASH Missile Systems
o Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
o Regional Product Support Centres

BUSINESS INITIATIVES

• Expansion of geo-spatial reach, full scale operationalization of Overseas
Marketing Offices in Vietnam, Sri Lanka and Oman. Singapore and New York
offices expanded with marketing cells.

Empowering the Nation’s Defence Forces

• Ten Regional Product Support Centres with storage facility and test labs made
operationalised.
• Leasing agreement signed with Tamil Nadu Industrial Explosives Limited for
further expansion in the area of Arms and Ammunitions.
• TAs / TCAs signed with potential Strategic Partners in the areas of Electronic
Warfare and Medical Electronics
• Signed MoU with Airport Authority of India for Advance Surface Movement
Guidance and Control System.
• Dedicated business verticals for Arms and Ammunitions and Land Based
Electronic Warfare Systems.

QUALITY INITIATIVES

• All Units / SBUs certified for ISO 9001 QMS & ISO 14001-2004 EMS standards
• 19 Units / SBUs certified for AS 9100 Aerospace standard
• Central Software Development Group at Bangalore Complex and Hyderabad
are CMMi level 5 certified and Central Research Laboratory, Network Centric
Systems, DCCS at Ghaziabad and Chennai Unit are CMMi level 3 certified
• 10 Units / SBUs certified ISO 27001 (Information Security System)
• 385 engineers certified as CRE (Certified Reliability Engineers) and 335
engineers as CQE (Certified Quality Engineers) 72 engineers as CSQE
(Certified Software Quality Engineers) and 124 Executives as CMQOE
(Certified Manager of Quality for Organizational Excellence) by American
Society of Quality (ASQ)
• 709 PMPs (Project Management Professionals) are certified by Project
Management Institute till date
MAKE IN INDIA INITIATIVES
• 78% of Sales Revenue from indigenous technology.
• BEL is focusing more on core areas and R&D to retain IP, all non-core areas
are being outsourced to Indian Industries including MSMEs.
• Procurement from MSMEs contributed around 31%.

• Import substitution of critical sub-systems through in-house/domestic vendor
development.
• BEL’s Test facilities are being provided to Private vendors.
• EOIs published for imported items under Make-II to attract capable /
prospective domestic manufacturers for indigenization.
• Details of items planned for indigenization uploaded on ‘Srijan Portal’,
Indigenization portal of MoD.

HR INITIATIVES

• Release of 3-year Training Plan of BAE in technology, leadership and quality
domains.
• Company wide per capita training man days was 6.86 during 2021-22.
• Employee Engagement & Satisfaction Survey was conducted and BEL has
been rated under “Best Employer Zone”.
• Commencement of M.Tech programs in collaboration with IITs.
• BEL e-Shiksha was re-launched in association with M/s Coursera.
• BESAFE scheme implemented for assistance to the family of deceased
employees.

ENVIRONMENTAL INITIATIVES

• All 9 Units of BEL are ISO 14001 (Environmental Standard) certified.
• Well-established Environmental Management System with pollution control
measures, Waste Water Treatment, Zero Effluent Discharge, Rainwater
Harvesting, Energy Conservation and proper disposal of Hazardous Waste.
• With a total capacity of 13.9 MW wind energy plants, Green energy generated
during 2021-22 is about 210 Lakh units.
• With cumulative capacity of 5.1 MWp Grid connected solar power plants
installed at roof tops of various building, 54 Lakh units of energy was
generated.
• Green Building concept has been introduced in all new buildings, and all
future buildings will meet Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment
(GRIHA) rating compliance.
