CMR University confers degrees on 1,400 students at its 6th Convocation in Namma BENGALURU

CMR University held its sixth Annual Convocation today at CMRIT Campus at Whitefield in Namma BENGALURU.

Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, Governor of Karnataka and the visitor at CMR University presided over the event. 

Prof. Govindan Rangarajan, Director of Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, was the  Chief Guest. The ceremony was also graced by K.C. Ramamurthy, IPS (Retd.), Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) & Chairman, CMR Group of Institutions who was the Guest of Honor and awarded the medals to the students and Dr. Sabitha Ramamurthy, Chancellor, CMR University awarded the degrees. K.R. Jayadeep, Pro Chancellor, Dr. Tristha Ramamurthy, Provost, Dr. Sanjay Jain, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dr. Praveen R, Registrar were also present during the occasion. 

                                           


The convocation ceremony of CMR University witnessed the graduation of 1,400 students across all seven schools. There were 1,400 who received degrees and 26 received doctoral degrees. Twenty-eight students were the rank holders for the year 2021-2022. Among the 28 gold medalists, 16 were awarded to girls and 12 to boys. Year on year girls have performed better and bagged more gold medals than boys across all disciplines.

                                            


Honoris Causa was conferred on Ar. Dinesh Verma, past president – Designers Guild of India & Practicing Architects Association, immediate past chairperson – Indian Institute of Interior Designers, B’lore, principal architect and managing director, ACE Group Architects. 

                                         


     

The Governor acknowledged that “India has always been a global knowledge house and now we are moving towards becoming the ‘Vishwaguru’. Indian universities are playing a significant role in achieving this larger vision. As the nation prepares itself to be ‘atma nirbhar’, the onus will be on the next generation to fulfil the vision. It is heartening to see CMR University’s contribution towards creating globally responsible citizens and nation-building as a whole.”

Further, he stressed on the importance of building environmentally friendly and sustainable nations and addressed the societal problems faced by the country. 

Delivering the convocation address, Prof. Govindan Rangarajan, Director of Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru said, “While the pandemic brought the world to stand still, it also opened up avenues for research and advancement. It has exposed the immense need for collaboration and robust research faculties. To tackle global challenges, it is vital for people working in diverse areas to come together and pool in their expertise to address the global challenges. The looming threat of future pandemics and the growing devastation have highlighted the need for collaborations rather than working in silos.” 

                                                


Adding further he mentioned, “Today, innovations are happening at an unprecedented pace. Researchers in India are making great strides in quantum technologies, machine learning, neuromorphic computing & cyber-physical systems. Exciting career opportunities await graduates in many of these emerging areas. There is especially a growing need for young students and researchers trained in India to develop indigenous solutions that can help address problems specific to our country, like malnutrition, water scarcity, and infectious diseases like TB & malaria”

With the focal theme ‘Nanotech for Sustainable Future’ the summit has witnessed participation of over 2500 Registered Delegates. The event consists of Multi-Track Conference where 75 National & International Speakers deliver lectures over 25 Sessions focusing on application of Nanotechnology across various sectors like Medicine, Manufacturing, Electronics, Hydrogen Economy, Food & Agriculture, Textile, etc and there are Tutorials focusing on Nano Fabrication, Bottom-Up Synthesis, Characterization Tools, and Nano Biology.

 Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Ajay Sood, FRS, Chairman, Conference Executive Committee- Bengaluru India Nano 2022, Year of Science Chair Professor, Department of Physics Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, said, “The Conference Sessions will focus on application of Nanotechnology across various sectors like Medicine, Manufacturing, Electronics, Hydrogen Economy, Food & Agriculture, Textile, etc. The Plenary Speakers are Prof. Federico Capasso, Harvard University, USA; Prof. Xiaodong Chen, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; Prof. Peidong Yang, University of California, USA and Prof. S. Swaminathan, SASTRA Deemed University, India. This year the Tutorials which are the sessions that not only inform but educate, will focus on Nano Fabrication, Bottom-Up Synthesis, Characterization Tools, and Nano Biology.

That is why Government of Karnataka started this event in 2007, and we are proud to host now the 12th edition this year.
 This event is acting as a global platform for convergence of Research, Academia, and Industry to explore the emerging opportunities in this sunrise Industry. Mr. A.B.
