Women and Children’s Healthcare and Research Centre (WCHRC) launched at Bangalore Baptist Hospital [ BBH ]in Namma BENGALURU

BENGALURU,14 JAN 2022:
Bangalore Baptist Hospital in collaboration with United States Agency for
International Development (USAID)American Schools and Hospitals Abroad
(ASHA) and Baylor University(USA) opened the state of the art “Women and
Children’s Health Research Centre ” to facilitate quality healthcare for women
and children.
                                 

 This new facility has both an Outpatient and In-patient facility in
the same building complex. It has an up to date Neonatal Intensive Care unit
with 23 beds, 11 bedded Pediatric Intensive Care units, and 3 Operation
theatres alongside Labour and Birthing rooms. This is a timely much-needed
addition to Bangalore Baptist Hospital, ensuring a one-stop-location of
facilities under one roof to provide optimal maternal and child healthcare.
Living and Learning Centre (LLC)
                                     

Bangalore Baptist Hospital (BBH), in collaboration with USAID, ASHA and
researchers at Baylor University (USA), partnered to realize this Living and
Learning Centre (LLC) to serve as a model, innovative facility with smart
classrooms, e-cafĂ©’s and accommodation for 224 nursing and post graduate
medical students to learn in their living environment. The smart classrooms
are equipped with the latest teaching innovations, technologies, evidence
based participatory learning pedagogies, approaches, and practices in
medical education, encompassing a total space of 23,000 sq.ft.
Both these projects are funded significantly by the United States Agency for
International Development’s (USAID) American Schools and Hospitals Abroad
(ASHA) Program, which provides assistance to overseas schools, libraries,
and hospitals to serve as study and demonstration centers for American ideas
and practices, in partnership with Baylor University. With the addition of the
WCHRC state of the art facility, Bangalore Baptist Hospital envisages
maintaining essential and advanced maternal and child care throughout the
COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. The innovative technology and the
infrastructure at the WCHRC will enable BBH to deliver quality care and
higher specialty services. The Living and Learning Centre will equip Nursing
students to learn in a well-designed e-learning environment.
                                                                            

Bangalore Baptist Hospital (BBH) started as an 80 bed secondary care
hospital in response to the invitation extended by the Government of
Karnataka in 1973. Today it has metamorphosed into a 340-bed tertiary care
multi-specialty teaching hospital. ‘Quality with Compassion’ is the underlying
tenet and BBH continues to strive to maintain its vision of ‘Healing and
Wholeness in the Spirit of Jesus Christ’. BBH has become an institution of
repute with many postgraduate residency programs, graduate and diploma
nursing, and allied health training programs. Annually 18% of the hospital’s
revenue is utilized in concessional care for deserving disadvantaged patients
in the main hospital and in the surrounding communities, irrespective of their
religion, caste or creed.
For the last 60 years, the ASHA program has shared and advanced the best
in American health and education innovations and approaches worldwide,
providing assistance to more than 300 institutions in over 80 countries.
USAID’s ASHA programs in India have totalled more than 28 million US$
since 1979.

The LLC and WCHRC building was inaugurated onsite  today (14 January 2022) at 8:10am in the Shruthi Auditorium at the Baptist Hospital premises with very limited participation,due to Safety Norms/Protocol for the ensuing,extraordinary,excruciating,exasperating COVID-19 Pandemic.

The event was hosted by Dr. Shebly L Garner and Dr. Lyn Prater, Clinical Professor,Baylor University,USA.

Dr. J.V Peter[Director,Christian Medical College,Vellore;Chairman, Bangalore Baptist Hospital Society]gave the special address.
