  • CM chairs a 3-hour long breakfast meet with over 125 CEOs and leaders from Electronics, IT, AVGC, Biotech and Start-Ups
  • Thought provoking discussions included ideation, challenges, and opportunities
  • CM reaffirmed the state’s commitment to empower and enable industry, promote ease of doing business and provide quality infrastructure

 

Bangalore,25th April 2022: Shri Basavaraj S. Bommai, Chief Minister of Karnataka today, met the top CEOs and leaders from Bengaluru’s technology and startup sector.  The gathering included leaders from IT, gaming, graphics, semiconductor, startups and biotech companies. The meeting was a part of the curtain raiser event(held at the TAJ Westend Hotel) to unveil logo and theme for the 25th edition of the Bengaluru Tech Summit, slated to return in physical format after 2 years gap due to the pandemic.

Bengaluru Tech Summit 2022, India's most prestigious and sought-after technology summit is here again! The platform will be celebrating its 25th year and is all set to offer another enriching confluence of pioneering companies, bright minds, and cutting-edge technologies in IT, Biotechnology, Deeptech, Start-ups and other future-defining spaces. This invigorating crucible is all set to benefit the various stakeholders associated with the respective domains - industry leaders, technocrats, young innovators, investors, R&D professionals, academia, and policymakers.

Organised by the Department of Electronics, IT, Bt and S&T, Government of Karnataka and Co-Hosted by STPI, Bengaluru Technology Summit brings together the most established businesses across technologies, the most talented individuals, researchers, consultants, academia, professionals and other stakeholders providing them with a unique opportunity to interact and engage for mutual benefit. Of course, as always BTS 2022 promises to be bigger, bolder, and better.

As the iconic event enters its 25th year, It is a matter of immense pride and a reason for celebration as the event is today recognised as Asia's Largest Technology Event,which will be held at the BANGALORE PALACE:16-18 Nov 2022. Over the decades, Bengaluru has grown in importance to playing an increasingly participatory role in keeping the world moving, and is today a recognised epicentre of operations of several leading Global MNCs.

                                 




The celebrations at BTS2022 would be about the growth and achievements from the past and unleashing plans for the future. BTS2022 will see the coming together of global technology leaders, India grown IT heads, Biotech, Deep tech and start-ups, all sharing their vision for the future along with their software and solutions displaying their disruptive technologies, educating us about their impact and forging important partnerships and alliances.

The meeting was hosted by the Government of Karnataka and chaired by the Hon’ble Chief Minister to reiterate the state’s commitment to the Technology sector. The industry captains proffered ideas and suggestions to further enhance the state’s position as the frontrunner in tech innovation hub. The discussions included challenges and roadblocks, both policy-led and infrastructural. Hon’ble Chief Minister acknowledged and appreciated the inputs and reassured his total commitment to address the concerns.

Also present at the conclave was Dr. C. N. Ashwath Narayan, Hon’ble Minister for Electronics, IT & Bt, Science and Technology, Higher Education, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood, Government of Karnataka, who echoed the Hon’ble Chief Ministers’ views and reiterated the need for industry and government to work closely together to create an enabling environment.

The discussion with the CEOs was steered by Mr. K.S .Vishwanathan of NASSCOM, Mr. K. Krishnamoorthy of IESA, Mr. Biren Ghose of ABAI and Mr. G.S. Krishnan of ABLE in the presence of Shri Kris Gopalakrishnan, Chairman, Vision Group on Information Technology; Shri Prashanth Prakash, Chairman, Vision Group on Startups; Shri B.V. Naidu, Chairman, Karnataka Digital Economy Mission and Dr. E. V. Ramana Reddy, ACS, Dept. of Electronics, IT, Bt and S&T and C&I, Government of Karnataka.

Industry leaders expressed their views on diverse matters ranging from policy, investments, talent, infrastructure, research ecosystem etc. that would help Karnataka continue to lead in Electronics, IT and Biotech Sector.     

                                     

                                                                   

The CEOs shared interesting insights and made suggestions to further strengthen their respective sectors. Some of interesting ideas shared were:

  • Create / promote 10 tier-2 cities like Bengaluru which will help create talent pool of 1 to 2 lakh employees every year towards taking IT exports from $60 billion to $150 billion in 5 years
  • Similarly, set-up semiconductor park in Karnataka. The new KAVGC Policy 2.0 will take Bengaluru and industry into the Metaverse and position Karnataka as capital for Animation, VFX and Gaming

The founders of unicorns shared interesting suggestions viz;

  • the nextgen technologies like Metaverse should become bridge between rural & urban markets
  • need for creating strong talent & research pipeline
  • accelerate EV adaption,
  • champion open data initiatives
  • focus on bringing more manufacturing units in Karnataka and the state should continue to lead in Fintech.

Similarly for the growth of Biotech sector, create faster environmental clearances for manufacturing facilities as well as introduce a drug policy to attract large pharma companies, set-up an integrated vaccine hub for next generation vaccines, attracting the risk capital and invite global biotech companies to invest in startups.

Addressing the CEOs on this occasion, Hon’ble CM said, I am immensely pleased to be amongst the best minds that bring laurels to the state and have put India on the global innovation map. Over the years, Karnataka has been the hotbed of innovation and the intellectual capital of our state is peerless. We stand committed to the growth of the sector and would like to reaffirm our unflinching support, both in terms of favourable policies and state of the art infrastructure.

We will continue to work towards enhancing ease of doing business, providing single window clearance and remove roadblocks that hinder growth and innovation. Our priority will continue to be wellbeing of the industry and its inclusive growth. We will work tirelessly to create an ecosystem that enables and empowers out human capital.

I am also happy to unveil the 25th SILVER JUBILEE edition of Bengaluru Tech Summit, our flagship technology conclave. Over the years BTS has become a platform to showcase innovation and further create opportunities for the sector. He further added, “The government is thinking in a fast forward mode to keep pace with the industry. We will collaborate with the best universities in India and globally to uplift and reform our educational institutions. We are also creating Employment policy because we believe that People are our biggest asset, and we need to create a favourable environment to help them prosper.”

Responding to questions on infrastructure, Hon’ble Chief Minister said that the government is committed to development and provide best in class infrastructure to Bengaluru and Karnataka. The government has earmarked Rs. 8000 crores to address the infrastructure concerns in Bengaluru. He also reiterated longer term investments such as metro, roads, sub-urban railways to ease the pressure on traffic.
